Both the Varsity baseball and softball teams secured the league title yesterday with victories over Rincon Valley Christian and Calistoga respectively. The Mustang baseball team won 15-5 in 7 innings while pounding out 14 hits. The Eagles did not help their cause with a total of 8 errors. Leading hitters for St. Vincent include Nico DeTorres 2×5 (RBI), George Sammon 2×4 (RBI), Dominic Pedersen 2×5 (RBI), Joe Purtell 2×3 (RBI), Sky Doble 1×5 (2B, RBI), and Patrick Garcia 1×4 (2 RBI). Senior Brandon Evans was the winning pitcher of record. The Mustangs will play their final league contest at Calistoga on Thursday and then will await the results of the seeding into the NCS playoffs. Their current league record is 8-1 and the overall is 15-8.
The Mustang softball team traveled to Calistoga and came away with a 10-3 win over the Wildcats. This is the first time during league that the Mustangs were scored upon by the opposing team and the first time their game went past 5 innings. Junior Hannah Sarlatte was the winning pitcher of record with 9 hits, 0 walks, and 4 strike outs. Calistoga also committed 4 errors in allowing the Mustangs to advance a base. St. Vincent collected 10 hits for the win including McKenna Wilson-Kay 2×5 (RBI), Haley Antonini 2×5 (RBI), Ursyla Baumgarten 2×4 (2 2B, RBI), and Rainey Henry 1×3 (2B, RBI). Wilson-Kay was also instumental defensively in the game as she turned 2 double plays. The Mustangs will play today vs. Anderson Valley at home for their final league game. Those seniors playing their last home game are Morgan Fairies, Hayley Olson, Ursyla Baumgarten, and Rainey Henry. St. Vincent is currently 11-0 in league play and 13-7 overall. They will be awaiting the NCS seeding process that will take place on Sunday.
