There aren’t many things that all high schools have in common or that all high school students care about, but one of those things is student privacy and the ability of authority to compromise that privacy.

Each high school in Petaluma has rules regarding social media that all students are required to adhere to. Petaluma High School, Casa Grande High School, and St. Vincent de Paul High School all have strict codes posted on their website regarding student use of the internet. At St. Vincent, students cannot post pictures that include images of school property or school projects. Students are not allowed to post on social media during school hours. Off campus, at any time, students are not allowed to post anything that is “unlawfully violent, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate,” according to the SVHS student handbook.
