St. Vincent De Paul High School

French I introduces students to the basic skills of speaking, reading, listening, and writing the language. By the end of the year, students are able to express ideas in the present and conversational past tense about family members, school, weather, food, shopping, personal traits, home, and leisure activities. Students are immersed into the culture through a web radio show; on-line news; songs and cultural research of the main regions of France and the French-speaking world. Students read short texts for discussion and writing. Students learn about dynamic companies such as Airbus, TGV, satellites, nuclear power, telecommunications, and medicine. Traditional areas such as art, fashion, and cuisine are also stressed. Students have the opportunity to travel to France over spring break, as trips are held frequently and are open to all levels.  Text: C’est a Toi-Level 1 EMC Publishing- textbook and workbook.
