MENTOR APPLICATION INFORMATION
Dear Sophomore and Junior Families,
As we prepare for Easter vacation and completing the end of the second semester, our focus begins to gradually shift to the upcoming academic year. In preparation for the new wave of students, the Counseling Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Mentor. Qualifications for Freshman Mentoring include upperclassman status, good disciplinary record, sold academic standing, but mostly, good character. Mentors are asked to be advocates, confidants and role models to our new students. We look for students who are of high integrity, approachable, compassionate and kind. These are generally kids who can be trusted to make sound recommendations to our youngest students and ease their transition into high school. While there is not an expectation that they are top scholars, there is an assumption that they approach their academic responsibilities seriously. The time commitment is generally limited to school hours with the exception of training sessions and orientation activities in August.
Attached, you will find a Mentor application which is due no later than April 20. Please understand that this is a firm deadline and while we appreciate that special circumstances can arise, we recommend that you have your application turned in well before the 20th to insure consideration. Applications will not be considered past the deadline. The selection committee, which includes teachers, administrators and staff, appreciates the time and care that students take in applying for this position and recognize that there are many obligations vying for your attention, so we wanted to make the application available to all interested students before Easter break. If you are a current junior and have served as Mentor this year, you should reapply if you are interested in serving as a senior.
