American Literature is a survey course designed to cover some of the most important works in our literary heritage, with a focus on the development of the American novel, short story, and poetry. Through representative works of various authors from the Puritan days to the 20th century, students will observe the growth and development of a distinctly American voice in literature. In addition, practice in a variety of essay structures and vocabulary study continues and amplifies what the student learned in Literature and Composition.
