FROM MRS. ATKINSON
Did you know that approximately one in four children younger than 18 years in the United States is exposed to alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence in the family? Many of the more than 28 million kids who are affected by drug or alcohol abuse in the family exhibit symptoms of depression and anxiety, as they experience higher levels of conflict within the family. More often, children from chemically dependent families present to the world as perfectly normal and happy, giving no clue as to the world they leave behind each morning. Regardless, these young people are all hampered by their inability to grow developmentally in healthy ways.
If you are interested in learning more about a group on campus which addresses the issues faced in growing up in a family impacted by chemical dependency, please see Mrs. Atkinson or leave her a note in the envelope outside her office.
