The St. Vincent de Paul Debate Team is hitting the national stage early this year, earning a bid to the 2014 Tournament of Champions at the first national circuit tournament of the year. This is the best start to a debate year in St. Vincent history.  At the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in early September Senior Ricky Young & Sophomore Adam Martin were 5-1 in prelims and made it all the way to the Quarterfinal round, earning their first bid to this year’s Tournament of Champions.  The Wake Forest tournament was extra tough this year, making Ricky & Adam’s placement in the top 8 teams (out of more than 100 from all over the country) especially exciting. Two weeks later, Ricky & Adam earned  a winning record at the Greenhill Invitational Debate Tournament in Dallas, Texas

.  This is one of the biggest and most difficult early tournaments of the year.  Ricky & Adam only missed the elimination rounds on 4/10ths of one speaker point (out of a total of 360 possible points over 6 debates).  Next up 22 SV debaters head to the Long Beach Invitational this coming weekend and then the entire debate team will compete October 5th at the first league debate of the year.
